Eveline Keyser tatters @ Wunderkammer

Scale is a fascinating thing. In 'Transposed Tatting' Eveline Keyser works with the beautiful technique of tatting in two different scales. The traditional scale uses a sewing thread and produces a delicate lace. In her interpretation of the technique Eveline Keyser uses thick cable that leads to a completely  new object. By stacking this object she created a beautiful poof. On display and for sale at Wunderkammer until the end of december 2012.

Erna Reiken @ Salon #1

Contemporary artist Erna Reiken will join Salon #1 'The making of...' with a special selection of her work. We love how she patiently views a space or object and then sensitively portraits it. We welcome you to see her work at Friday november 30 from 16.00-20.00 hrs and Saturday from 10.00-17.00 hrs at Kanaalstraat 149A.

'In my work I bring the idea of truth back to one place or object. By looking over and over again at that same object, I discover new forms, light, structure. In series of paintings and drawings I depict these. Zooming in and out. At different moments of the day. Adding, removing. Big, small. Paint, pencil.

Tapio Wirkkala

One of our heroes is Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985). He was a very versatile designer and sculpurer, found inspiration in urban environments as well as the highlands in Lapland, worked in wood, glass, porcelain, metal and plastic. We love his philosophic view on materisla: all materials have their own unwritten laws. You should never be violent with a material you're working on, and the designer should aim at being in harmony with his material.'

Very Special Fan Mail

Some time ago 'De Volkskrant' published an interview with British fashion designer Sir Paul Smith. Never a fan but after reading the interview, consider us team Smith. He seems just lovely, always positive, curious and quirky. A fan of his started sending him small gifts about 20 years ago. The objects are seemingly random, never in a box, stamps and adress directly on them. All Sir Paul knows is that the stamps are american. He keeps them in his studio, his 'Wunderkammer'. Hence the choice of name for our studio.

Benjamin Wigley made a wonderful short movie about the stamped objects:
